Les Coquettes Cabaret Burlesque – “Gala!”

Forget tawdry lap dance and vulgar pole dance. Le burlesque nouveau puts class back into an art form that has fallen into serious disrepute. Les Coquettes Cabaret Burlesque’s latest show Gala! is a case in point.

Modern day striptease is dance theatre that is naughty but nice. The emphasis is on the “tease”, and nothing goes beyond pasties and g-strings. Titillation is the key.

All nouveau burlesque performers have less inhibited alter egos. By day them may work in offices or retail, but by night they are transformed into glamorous avatars with names like La Minouche, Suki Tsunami and Dante Inferno.

A nouveau strip show usually has a theme. Gala! was an homage to the glamour of Old Hollywood which featured tributes to film noir, silent movies and a boylesque trio (aka male strippers) performing Singing in the Rain while coyly removing their briefs behind twirling black umbrellas.

Les Coquettes Cabaret Burlesque is the featured New Year’s Eve entertainment at Brantford’s Sanderson Centre.
